Tackling Gang Crime:Supporting Young People and Improving Police and Multi-Agency Responses

This symposium aims to provide an opportunity for stakeholders, including community groups, law enforcement and legal professionals, charities and community groups, and local authorities, to understanding the underlying causes of gang violence and the factors which contribute to gang membership, examine current efforts to prevent the spread of gang violence and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation and intimidation.

Programme

  • Showcase current support offered to young people to prevent youth violence and avenues for improving the support provided within communities, schools, and healthcare settings

  • Learn how to work with parents and carers to help break down barriers and safeguard loved ones

  • Raise awareness of the risk of racial bias within government and police practices and discuss mechanisms for eliminating such discrimination

  • Share best practice in rehabilitation efforts, minimising the risk of individuals rejoining gangs and reoffending
